Founding Story

This is a Founding Story — built from real canary experience patterns. Read how our stories work →

In 1998 our neighborhood was sprayed for mosquitoes three nights in a row. They fogged the streets with malathion. I was 38 and gardening outside when the truck came by. The spray drifted right over me. By the next morning I had a migraine that lasted two weeks. From that day forward, I reacted to pesticides, then fragrances, then cleaning products, then chlorine. My doctor called it TILT — Toxicant-Induced Loss of Tolerance. One massive exposure broke something in my system and now everything triggers it. I’m 66 now. It’s been 28 years. It doesn’t go away.

I own my home outright, thank God. Converted to all-electric, removed all carpet, installed whole-house HEPA filtration. When the county sprays for mosquitoes I seal every window and run the purifiers on max for 48 hours. My house is my fortress.

Dr. Claudia Miller’s TILT research described me perfectly. I was fortunate — my doctor in the early 2000s actually knew about chemical sensitivity. She retired in 2012 and I haven’t found anyone since who takes it seriously. I manage myself now.

This is a personal experience, not medical advice. ImACanary.com makes no causation claims.
