The apartment beside mine was renovated over three weeks and the smell came through the wall the whole time. Afterwards I could not tolerate the detergent aisle, then trains, then the office. In Japan there is a term for chemical sensitivity and a small number of clinics, which is more than many countries have, but the social cost of using the term at work was higher than the medical benefit. I resigned rather than explain. Six years later I work from home and my family still describes it to relatives as delicate health.
This is a personal experience, not medical advice. ImACanary.com makes no causation claims.
