Our basement flooded in 2018. Mold remediation company came, tore out the walls, and I thought the problem was solved. It wasn’t. The HVAC had distributed spores through the entire house. By the time we discovered it, I’d been breathing contaminated air for months. The brain fog was so bad I couldn’t drive. I’d sit at intersections forgetting where I was going. My three kids needed a functioning mom and I could barely function.
We sold the house and rented while I recovered. Found a newer construction home in a drier part of Colorado. I check the humidity in every room daily. I own four dehumidifiers. My kids call me ‘the mold police.’
Pediatrician for my kids was more helpful than my own doctor. She said ‘mold makes people sick, we see it all the time in children’ and referred me to her colleague who treats adults. Simple as that. One doctor believed me. That’s all it took.
